What we do, in one paragraph

A couple comes to us with a situation, not a service. Somebody has already had a temple wedding and needs it registered. Somebody is marrying across faiths and has been told, wrongly, that one of them must convert. Somebody's divorce came through in March and they want to know whether they can marry in April. Somebody is frightened that a notice will reach their parents' house.

Our job is to take that situation, work out which law actually governs it, tell the couple what the real timeline is, prepare a file that will not be sent back at the counter, submit it to the correct office, and stay with it until the certificate is in their hands. That is the whole of it. There is no version of this work where we issue anything, waive anything, or make an office move faster than it moves.

What we are not - said plainly, because it matters

We are not a government body. Not the Delhi Government, not the Revenue Department, not an SDM office, not a court, not a registrar. We do not run or represent any government portal. Your certificate is issued under the Special Marriage Act, 1954 or under section 8 of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 read with the Delhi (Compulsory Registration of Marriage) Order, 2014, by the concerned officer - and by nobody else.

We are not an agent of any Arya Samaj institution. Where an Arya Samaj ceremony is the right route for an eligible Hindu couple, we explain what that ceremony is, what the institution's own certificate does and does not prove, and what registration step must follow. The institution is independent of us and sets its own charges.

This website is not an advertisement. Rule 36 in Section IV, Chapter II of Part VI of the Bar Council of India Rules prohibits an advocate from soliciting work or advertising. By Resolution No. 50/2008, notified through STBC (Cir.) No. 7/2008 dated 30 April 2008, the Bar Council added a proviso permitting only limited factual particulars on a website. Reading this site does not make us your advocate. A professional relationship starts only when a matter is accepted and engagement confirmed in writing.

How a matter actually runs, from first message to certificate

Every matter follows the same seven steps. We publish them so you can tell where yours has reached, and so you can hold us to a step that has not happened.

Step 7 is the one most services quietly drop. Following your file up after submission is included in what you already paid, and we do not bill again for it.

Four things we will not do, whatever we are offered

We will not promise a same-day court marriage. Section 5 of the Special Marriage Act requires a notice of intended marriage, section 6 requires it to be entered in the Marriage Notice Book and published, and section 7 gives thirty days for objections. Section 46 makes a Marriage Officer who solemnises in contravention of the Act liable to imprisonment and fine. The officer is risking his liberty, not a refund. There is no fee that changes that. A same-day Arya Samaj ceremony is a different thing entirely, and we describe it as what it is.

We will not call our own charge a government fee. The Delhi Revenue Department's published procedure says Rs 15 is to be deposited with the cashier of the District for solemnisation under the Special Marriage Act, and Rs 100 with the Marriage Clerk for registration under the Hindu Marriage Act. Clause 4 of the Delhi Order, 2014 sets Rs 200 for registration under that Order. When a service quotes you Rs 2,000 or Rs 10,000 as a 'government fee', it has put a government label on its own bill.

We will not submit a document we believe to be false. Section 44 of the Special Marriage Act makes signing a declaration under that Act containing a statement you know to be false the offence described in section 199 of the Indian Penal Code, now the corresponding provision of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and a fabricated document attracts the forgery provisions besides. That liability lands on you, years later, usually at the moment the certificate matters most - a visa interview, a property claim, a pension file. We stop work rather than carry it.

We will not publish your name, photograph or case. Not as a testimonial, not as a success story, not anonymised. Marriage matters in Delhi are family-sensitive and sometimes dangerous, and no marketing benefit is worth that risk to a client.

How we charge, and why the two numbers are always shown apart

There are three kinds of money in a marriage file and mixing them up is where almost every fee dispute in this market comes from.

Government fees go to the government at its own counter - Rs 15, Rs 100 or Rs 200 depending on the route. Ask for the receipt and keep it.

Third-party costs go to a notary, a stamp vendor, a translator, an apostille agent, a courier, a photographer, or an Arya Samaj institution. At actuals.

Our professional fee is for our own time - route advice, drafting, checking, coordination and follow-up. It depends on the route, whether either of you was married before, whether documents come from outside Delhi, and whether an advocate's drafting or appearance is needed. It is quoted once, in writing, before work starts. If the scope genuinely changes - a new document surfaces, an objection is filed under section 7, an extra appearance becomes necessary - we tell you the cost and wait for your agreement before doing the work.

Where we work

Your file goes to the SDM sub-division that covers where you live, and that map changed on 1 January 2026 - Delhi went from 11 districts and 33 sub-divisions to 13 districts and 39 sub-divisions. Three districts were created (Old Delhi, Central North, Outer North), Shahdara ceased to be a district and survives as a sub-division of North East, seven sub-division names were dropped and four moved to a different district.

We rewrote every one of our area pages against the current official directory, so the office we send you to is the office that exists today rather than the one that existed in 2024. Each page also says what happens to a file from a locality whose sub-division was abolished.

Outside Delhi we handle Noida, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad and Faridabad, where the statute is the same but the state rules, portals and counter practice differ.

Who does the work, and where the boundary is

Documentation, checking, coordination and follow-up are done by our own team. That is the bulk of every matter and it is what actually decides whether a file clears at the counter.

Where a matter needs legal drafting, an affidavit, a representation before an authority, an objection to answer under section 8, or court work, it is handled by advocates enrolled with a State Bar Council. Advocates owe you professional duties under the Advocates Act, 1961 independently of anything on this website, and a complaint about an advocate's conduct goes to that State Bar Council under section 35 of that Act. If you ever want to make one, we will give you the enrolment details you need and we will not obstruct it.

Notaries, translators, apostille agents and Arya Samaj institutions are independent third parties. We arrange them at your request and pass on what they charge; we do not mark them up and we do not present their certificates as ours.

Confidentiality, and what happens to your documents

To register a marriage in Delhi a couple hands over Aadhaar, passport or school certificate, address proof, photographs, and often a divorce decree or a death certificate. That is one of the most complete identity packages a person will ever put in someone else's hands, and we treat it that way.

Access is limited to the people working on your matter. Documents sit on password-protected devices and cloud storage with two-factor authentication, not on shared drives. Paper is kept locked and originals go back to you at the earliest. When a matter closes and the retention period ends, digital files are deleted and paper is shredded.

A Grievance Officer is named there under Rule 5(9), with a one-month outer limit for a written answer.

A practical request: send only the pages we ask for. If your address proof is a bank statement, mask the transactions. Less of your data in anyone's hands is better for you.

What 'experience' means in this work

Experience in marriage documentation is not knowledge of the statute - the statute is public and short. It is knowing the specific ways a file dies at a Delhi counter. These are the ones we see most, and each of them is preventable:

A name that does not match across documents. Aadhaar says 'Sunil Kumar', the school certificate says 'Sunil Kr.', the passport says 'Sunil Kumar Yadav'. That is a query, and a query is a fresh appointment. It costs an affidavit before submission and weeks after it.

An address proof that does not establish the residence the office needs. A Special Marriage Act notice requires at least one party to have resided in the district for not less than thirty days, and the proof must show it. A rent agreement dated last week does not.

A notice allowed to lapse. Section 14 provides that if the marriage is not solemnised within three months of the notice, the notice and all proceedings on it lapse and you start again. Couples file, travel, come back in the fourth month and lose everything. We have not found this section mentioned on a single competing page in Delhi.

A decree that is not yet safe to remarry on. The question is never just 'are you divorced' - it is whether the decree is final and whether the appeal window has run. A remarriage inside that window can be challenged later.

An Arya Samaj certificate mistaken for a government certificate. The ceremony is a valid marriage where both parties are eligible; the institution's certificate is not the document a passport office or a bank wants. The government registration under section 8 is a separate step and it is not optional if you need the certificate to work.

Where our information comes from

Every legal and administrative claim on this site is traced to a primary source before it is published: the bare Act, a gazette notification, a government department's own page, or a reported judgment. Where we describe how an office behaves rather than what a rule says, we label it as practice, because practice is not law and it varies between sub-divisions.

We do not use another firm's website as a source of fact. That is how the Rs 5,000 'government fee' and the one-day court marriage got into circulation - one page copied the page above it until nobody remembered where the number came from.

A page's last-reviewed date on this site moves only when the page's content actually changes, never on a routine rebuild. An old date here means the law on that page has held, not that the page was abandoned. The whole method is set out on our editorial and review policy page, and corrections are welcome at any time.

How to check us - six questions, and we would rather you asked them

You are about to hand somebody your identity documents, and if you are marrying against family wishes, information that could put you at risk. Apply this test to us and to anyone else you are considering.

What is the government fee? The right answer is Rs 15, Rs 100 or Rs 200 with a reason for which one applies.

Can a court marriage be done in one day? The right answer names section 46 and says no.

Will you put your fee in writing, separately from the government fee, before I pay? If not, walk away.

Which sub-division does my file go to? If they name a sub-division that stopped existing on 1 January 2026, their information is more than a year stale.

What happens if it is refused? A service that has thought about this has an answer ready.

If an advocate is on my file, what is the enrolment number? You are entitled to know, and it is what you would need to complain.

Where we are weak

Every 'about us' page in this industry is a list of strengths. Here is the other half, because you can only judge a service if you know its limits.

We cannot make a government office move faster. Appointment availability, officer leave, portal downtime and verification queries are outside our control. What we owe you there is continued follow-up at no extra charge and a straight answer every time you ask - not silence.

We cannot fix facts. If the conditions in section 4 of the Special Marriage Act are not met - age, capacity, a prohibited relationship, a living spouse - no preparation changes that, and we will say so before taking a fee rather than after.

Some of what we do, you can do yourself. A straightforward registration where both partners are local, the documents match and witnesses are available is something many couples complete in an afternoon. We say so on the pages where it is true. Where this work is worth paying for is complexity and the cost of a mistake, not the filing itself.

We are a small team. That is why you get a person who remembers your file rather than a ticket number - and also why we take on fewer matters than a call centre would. If we are the wrong fit, we say so on the first call.
